Experimental & Field Experience
#

6. Arctic Ocean, north of Svalbard, Norway. Participated in Useful Arctic Knowledge program sponsored by the Nansen Environmental Remote Sensing Center in Bergen, Norway. While embarked on board the Norwegian Coast Guard icebreaker KV Svalbard, conducted work on sea ice, including CTD profiles, acoustic localization and passive sensing, and various measurements and analyses of sea ice (June 2021).

5. Tongue of the Ocean, Bahamas. As an officer on board USS Providence, assisted with the first successful launch of an AUV from a submarine torpedo tube for the Naval Research Laboratory’s (NRL) Sea Robin and experimental fuel cell (XFC) program (Aug. 2013).

4. NPS, Monterey, Calif. Conducted laboratory measurements of non-linear effects observed on oscillating strings, and worked to replicate such effects with transducers in an anechoic chamber (June-Sept. 2010).

3. San Francisco Bay, Calif. Assisted with deployment of the Seaweb underwater acoustic network as a path to convey real-time, in-situ data from an acoustic Doppler current profiler at depth in Raccoon Strait to the Central and Northern California Ocean Observing System (CeNCOOS) website (July 2009).

2. St. Margaret’s Bay, Nova Scotia. Embarked research intern for two weeks with NRL for Unet 2008 sea trials; deployed and operated an underwater acoustic network, characterized the communication channel, and evaluated performance of the network in shallow water (June 2008).

1. Independent research for USNA Bowman Scholarship with NRL, Acoustic Signal Processing and Systems Branch (May 2008-May 2009). In consultation with NRL, utilized MATLAB to analyze the impact of biologic noise on signal-to-noise ratios of digital acoustic communications employed by Seaweb.
